I'm not a super sentimental person when it comes to things. It's fairly easy for me to get rid of stuff I don't need anymore, but I wasn't always like that!
When I was a child I saved everything. And everything had a place. And if anyone touched my things then I knew it, and could tell when stuff had been moved and it drove me crazy when anyone touched my stuff!
Eventually I threw away a lot of the things I had been holding on to, but in my cedar chest are a few of the treasures I have kept. This week I have been reorganizing everything.
LETTERS
I had a few faithful pen pals that I loved writing letters to!
First was my friend Kathryn Turner in Australia. She is 7 years older than I am and I can't remember playing with her in Australia very much, but she became an amazing friend through years of letters! She wrote me all through her high school years. I finally saw her again for a few minutes when she had a layover in Utah on my last day of 9th grade in 2003!
Pen pals 2 and 3 were both my cousins!
Kayla and Ashley. Although technically, Ashley is my dad's cousin.
Ashley lived in California so we only saw each other at our summer family reunions.
1997 we went to Ashley's house in Bakersfield, CA
and to Disneyland!
1999 was at Hobble Creek
2000 was at Gooseberry and we all got to camp together in a cabin!

2001 we got to camp at Maple Grove
2002 we got to go to the beach in California and go boogie boarding!
And the last reunion was in 2003 at Fish Lake.
I loved these family reunions!
Kayla was my BFF growing up and we had the most letters and phone calls by far!
Cassette tapes!
The top one is a tape of Play School songs I listened to in Australia. I loved this tape!
There is a home video of me out of bed in the middle of the night playing this tape in my room.
The second one is Micheal Martin Murphy. The song, "What's forever for" is on it and I remember playing it over and over during my parents divorce. Kinda weird...
This is just a random pencil box full of "treasures" such as a lip gloss ring (probably bought it with Ashley at the mall along with some butterfly clips), a shell from Australia, a clam shell from Lake Powell, and my purple Belle watch that I loved. I remember pretending I was a power ranger with it a couple times.
This tea set reminds me of a few tea parties that I had with Katey Shelton in her backyard.
That and Secret Garden keys totally remind me of her!
Also, I made a treasure map... No idea what the treasure was.
Also, I made a treasure map... No idea what the treasure was.
We'd also play Indians and made arrow heads on this here "friendship" rock.
I had a good childhood. We made forts, climbed trees, hiked to the G, pretended we were mermaids when we went to the pool, had sleepovers and played night games.
This was my bike. I could ride it with no hands and pretended it was my horse. Of course my horse was the white one cause I had white tires.
We had a number of "clubs" around the neighborhood. One in the tree on the side of my house, one under the deck at the Love's house, one in the vines on the Jenkin's property, one in the loft of the barn at the Nelson's and sometimes we'd go play in the playhouse at the Eyre's.
We put on a couple shows for our parents. The first was a play on the side of the Heil's house. Jake sang, "I'm a Policeman Dressed in Blue" and I had a nylon over my face and didn't see our curtain rope- ran my face right into it. The next one was on our new driveway. One of the songs we danced to was "Surfin' USA" and we had a skateboard.
These are my blankets. My mom Tammy made the Little Mermaid one for me the Christmas we got back from Australia. I rubbed the silk edges off though because whenever I sucked my thumb I also had to rub silk between my fingers..
The horse blanket came from my mom Annette. All the kids got one for Christmas one year and of course mine had horses. My whole room was decorated with horses. I was obsessed with horses!
Mom Tammy also made Quillows for me and Jake. A quilt that folds into a pillow, how neat is that?!
Later she made me this Precious Moments quilt for my waterbed.
My room at her house had a Precious Moments theme going on.
This is my collection of Precious Moments figurines :)
My baby blanket. Of course the silk edges are rubbed off!
This is Daddy Bunny.
He was my favorite little friend in Australia, along with my imaginary friend, Little Amber.
Can't forget my American Girl Dolls!
Josephina, Kirsten and Addy. I remember saving up to buy Addy myself.
I wasn't really into dolls, but I loved reading American Girl Doll books. The dolls were characters.
Each doll had 6 books and I remember checking them out to read from the library at Grovecrest Elementary. Ashley had Samantha.
JOURNALS
There are 27 of them.
Starting from when I was 12 years old. We had a lesson in young womens about writing in a journal and I took it to heart, obviously. I think I wrote nearly every day until I went to college. Now I write about once a week. I read through them a couple years ago and definitely had a good time laughing at the weird stuff I wrote! Really they are my therapy. I'm not bugged anymore after I write everything down.
So there you have it.
A small sampling of some of my childhood treasures!
Hope everyone enjoyed the trip down memory lane with me.

I loved reading through this post. It reminded me of all the stuff I saved through the years in my cedar chest. I still have notes I exchanged with friends in junior high and I still have my journals from my youth, also started when I was 12 years old, but I quit writing sometime in late adulthood. My favorite memorabilia is stuff that belonged to my dad that my mom gave me. I was prone to writing in my journals when I wanted to vent, so I fear anyone reading them will think I was always an unhappy person, but that is not the case. I have made significant progress the past several years to completing the journal jar you gave me when you were in jr. high. I also go through occasionally and will print out a couple years worth of emails on occasion to try and keep some history collected. I haven't done that for a while.
