Squish

Little baby squish got to meet cousin Keslee last week! She's 3 days older, but he's 2 pounds bigger.
And I love how they both have their hands up the same way in this picture! So fun.
Some babies sleep in a ball cause it's what they've been used to, but Kohen goes full star fish!
Once in awhile we see a little grin while he's sleeping. Mostly he looks grumpy.

He's been a great sleeper though. 3 nights in a row I only had to feed him once during the night! He's going to miss Kyle when he goes back to work though. He takes all his morning naps laying on Kyle's chest. They are snuggle buddies.

Goodbye Summer, Hello School

Tai started preschool at A Step Ahead Preschool last Wednesday! We went to her openhouse the week before and Kasen was so excited to show her around and tell her about her teachers.
We went to pick out a backpack for her and she wanted this one with the lipstick on it! And she picked out these "spark-a-ley" rainbow shoes too. She's been twirling with her backpack, pretending to go to school all week.
We got there and she walked right in with Mrs. Liz like the biggest girl ever.
She loved dancing and told me she did "so many stuff!"
Hopefully all the scratches on her legs are just the signs of a good summer playing outside.
We have Lindsay to thank for providing pretty much all of our summer fun this year! I think Kasen and Tai went swimming over at their house 4 times the week before last and did one last backyard movie night too.
I'm super impressed with Kasen because at his birthday party in June, he wouldn't even jump into the pool with his life jacket and now he's doing back flips off of the ladder and getting toys off the bottom of the pool!
Kasen had his Kindergarten testing and ROCKED it! He was answering all the questions so fast that their computer couldn't even keep up so he did his testing with the teacher on paper. So we took the kids to get some blue cookie monster ice cream and went to eat it at the temple on Tuesday. Our first family outing and first family of 5 photo. So grateful this bunch is mine forever.
Sunday Kyle gave the kids their back to school, Father's Blessings and Kasen is super excited for Kohen to get his baby blessing now and keeps asking when Kyle will give him a blessing.

Yesterday was Kasen's first day of Kindergarten at Mountain Trails Elementary School!
We found out on Friday that his teacher is Ms. Perez and I still have yet to actually meet her...
I wasn't very impressed with the welcome the new Kindergartners got going to school on their first day. We got there early to hopefully show Kasen which classroom is even his, but we had to stay outside and none of the doors had teacher names or numbers on them. It wasn't till after the first bell rang that the teachers even came out to get their class. Kasen was a champ though! He walked right in and said, "My name is Kasen!"
He thinks it's pretty cool that Kohen has a binky with blue dinosaurs on it to match his mask he has to wear to school. Tai doesn't have to wear one to her preschool.
 So big and brave!

Today was the first day that Kasen and Tai BOTH went to school! 2 days a week I'll get 2 whole hours of just me and Kohen.
I asked them if they are going to miss each other and Kasen just gave Tai a hug. He asks her about Preschool and what she brought home in her backpack and it's the cutest thing ever!
I'm so excited for them and all the great things they'll get to learn with all their new friends.
Here's to hoping that schools actually stay open for the whole year! #stupidcovid

2 Weeks Old

Kohen is 2 weeks old today!
And went to get circumcised today too. I don't know why they didn't do it at the hospital like they did with Kasen, but I guess it's good cause his bellybutton is all healed now so there will only be one area to worry about instead of 2. And this time they actually let me stay to watch him get circumcised.
He's back up to his birth weight exactly and everything is going well.

These pictures are from when he was 3 days old. Cute little squish!
I love how soft and fuzzy they are!

I took these pictures when he was 1 week old though, on his due date.
His little smile is the BEST!
My body is hurting longer than I remember with the other two recoveries, but we're doing well!
Kasen asks to hold him more than Tai does, but Tai will throw away dirty diapers where Kasen doesn't even want to touch the clean ones!
He's so funny though, telling me that "Kohen is cuter than a whale. He is cuter than baby teeth! He is cuter than a baby wolf." Haha
I hadn't even bought any newborn diapers cause I assumed that like Kasen, he would be too big for them, but he's so much smaller that we've had to go buy newborn diapers and he fits into the newborn clothes that Kasen never could wear!
Tonight during family prayer Kasen said in his prayer, "I love my family cause there is a baby in it."
And Kyle loves that his favorite place to sleep is on his chest.
I love our family of 5.

The Basement

 Basement done!
And Kyle is some kind of superstar doing pretty much all of it all by himself! He's been working his butt off all summer. So incredible.
He finished a little framing, helped plumb the bathroom, put in the tub, put up all the dry wall, taped the seams and corners, mudded, sanded, mudded, sanded, mudded, and sanded again, textured the walls, primed, painted, resized the closet doors, hung doors, installed trim, painted doors and trim, caulked, tiled the bathroom, installed the toilet sink and bathroom hardware, put in lights, outlets, light switches and smoke alarms, touched up the painting, and tore out all the carpet downstairs.
And in between all that he fixed the doorbell, fixed the truck (so we could finally register it), fixed our bathroom fan, fixed sprinklers, patched the hole Kasen put in the wall upstairs and put a new battery in my car.
Home improvement wizard.
Kyle tried convincing me to put hard wood floors downstairs instead of carpet, but I just couldn't. On my mission in Brazil one of the things on the list of things I missed was carpet. Carpet is just so much cozier in my opinion. When kids sit down to watch a movie carpet is comfier, when babies crawl around carpet is softer, when you pull out your blankets to have a slumber party under the Christmas Tree you don't want to sleep on a hard floor and when it's time to clean it, I would way rather pull out a vacuum than have to sweep and mop.
And man does the new carpet make the upstairs carpet feel awful to walk on!
So happy I won.
However, I lost having a door on the hall closet downstairs. It would have to be custom made and too expensive so we decided to leave it open, but man do I hate that. I have a thing about open storage shelves. Shelves for decoration are different, but open storage shelves, whether it's books, movies or anything, look so cluttered and messy to me. I like things to be in cupboards and organized behind doors so it all looks clean and tidy. Gotta go find some cute baskets to put on the shelves or something.
This was 4 days before our scheduled induction. Cutting it close!
Because Monday and Tuesday was when we were getting new carpet installed before going to the hospital on Wednesday. Closet doors were supposed to be in before then, but they didn't arrive until Tuesday, after the carpet was in. Thursday we had carpet cleaners coming to clean the carpets upstairs.
But like I said, Kyle is amazing and it all worked out.
Kasen and Tai got to sleep in their new bedrooms the night they came home and have been loving it!
Kasen was super excited that his bedroom door even stays open without his rock having to hold it open.
 "Good job Kyle!"
