Jordanelle

Kyle and I have been camping together many many times, even as far back as before we were married. But never have we been camping more than one night by ourselves and never have we been camping by ourselves since having kids.
But over the weekend we went camping with our kids by ourselves for 2 nights!
 Boo Yeah!
Finding a location was tricky because we wanted to go to a camp ground that had both bathrooms and running water for the kids AND a lake to go fishing at, but most campgrounds weren't taking reservations for a couple more weeks. Finally we found Jordanelle that was first come first serve.
Kyle went fishing at Strawberry Thursday morning and then we met him in Heber to go camping.
We debated going a different weekend, but the weather was supposed to be the warmest this first weekend. Nowhere in all our planning did the weather report ever show rain.
But alas, it's me and with my luck it means that we got rain both Thursday and Friday.
While we were setting up our tent on Thursday we got to see the Hill AFB F-35 state flyover though! The most airshow we're gonna get this year because the air show has been cancelled. As well as every single one of the Church's youth camps and conferences. No young women's camp this summer. Still waiting to hear about T-ball, my very last plan that hasn't been cancelled because of Covid19. Can't say I minded receiving the stimulus check though...
A lot of stores are requiring people to wear masks to go inside now and gas prices are crazy low. $1.65 a gallon by our house and even lower in other areas. Not too long ago gas was well over $3. So crazy! Apparently a lot of the quarantine restrictions are starting to be lifted this month, but I still feel just as quarantined as ever.
This camping trip was super exhausting, but it was still nice to get out of the house for a couple days. Even if it made me want a break from my kids even more. :)
Kyle was awesome though! He was given a dutch oven and so our menu consisted of mostly dutch oven meals, which Kyle ROCKED! I wish I would have taken pictures of all of them.
Thursday, after the rain, we made homemade pizza in the dutch oven and then an apple dump cake! (Which Kyle calls cobbler, but the kids are calling it dump cake too so I win!)
And then Kasen put the dutch oven lid lifter on his face.
Friday morning Kyle made a breakfast casserole in the dutch oven and then I took the kids on a nature scavenger hunt. We only found 12/20 things, but they wanted to go back before we could find anymore. So then we took them fishing, but they got bored with that and wanted to go back to camp before we caught a fish either. Shocker.
So we made dinner- yummiest chicken nachos ever! There are so many layers of good stuff in there. We all ate inside our little tent porch while it rained.
Then of course we made S'mores.
This morning after breakfast we packed up and headed home.

I hope camping helped Tai get over her sudden fear of bugs. For like the last 2 weeks she has been FREAKING out every time she sees a fly or an ant. To the point that she wakes up in the night crying that there is a fly in her room. No idea where all that has come from, but it better stop quick.
She told me her favorite part of camping was sleeping in her Ariel sleeping bag and Kasen's favorite part was making s'mores. I got a little nap on Friday, which was pretty sweet and there was no mouse poop inside our sleeping bag which was even better!!
Till next time.

  1. So great to see your family getting out to camp. Even though it is exhausting for the parents, they are memories that kids hold onto forever. Some of my fondest childhood memories are from when we would go camping in Alaska with all of my dad's military buddies and their families.
