Oh Mother's Day. I usually see a few posts complaining about how much people hate Mother's Day, but this year was a whole new level! Wow. So this is me "not" posting about Mother's Day cause it seems the trend is to complain about how motherhood should not be put on a pedestal, that motherhood should not be idealized or focused on, being a mother should not define you and how the expectations are harmful, like putting your kids needs above yours. How does everything good in the world keep seeming to be getting turned into offensive and not worth our time?! You're not well rounded human being after becoming a mom? Women can absolutely be fulfilled by "only" being a mom. I get that motherhood isn't for everyone, whether by choice or circumstance, but don't trivialize it either.
I think Motherhood is noble, sacred and divine. It is worth gratitude and celebration no matter how you are able to fill the role or how imperfect mothers are. I'm not the mom that helps my kids do the monkey bars at the playground or the mom that never yells, or the mom that wakes up before my kids, but we read before bed, we give good morning hugs, we play games, paint finger nails, snuggle, make photo books out of all Kasen's pictures posing next to cool rocks and are happy more than we're sad, so I think we're winning, I'm so lucky to have kids that make me feel like a winner! Mostly... They teach me about the most important things I need in my life like laughter, selflessness, giving, serving, loving and a massive amount of patience. Being a mom is the greatest thing I will EVER do with my life and I will forever be grateful for the opportunity.
Miss Tai's sassy pants eye rolls and her fast blinks. The other night Kyle yelled down the stairs, "Go to bed Tai!" and she yelled back, "YOU go to bed Dad! I'm gonna beat you tomorrow!" Haha Kyle is always saying he will beat them. They have no idea what that even means.
For Mother's Day I asked for a new back porch swing. Our last one lived its last day of life after 3 years living in a windy, Eagle Mountain backyard. The top was completely torn and the kids broke one of the bars on it, so now we have a new one that also lays down flat for the perfect summer nap experience! EVEN Kyle made me French toast for breakfast :)
Sure love these guys!
