Liddiards Go To Lake Powell

The Liddiard family favorite camping spot has always been Flaming Gorge, but this year they decided to give Lake Powell a try.  It was an adventure.
Their family friends were the ones that planned this trip and they chose to go to Wahweap instead of Bullfrog.  I'd never been to Wahweap before, but it meant that Kasen and Tai have been out of state for the first time because we went to Arizona!  There are definitely more sights to go see at Bullfrog and the canyon walls are higher and more vibrant, making it easier to find shade too.
We didn't stay on a houseboat either.  Lake Powell is a completely different experience without a houseboat. I wouldn't recommend it.  If you are camping then go to Flaming Gorge.
The heat was intense, like 105 degrees most of the time and the beach was FAR. If you go to Lake Powell you need to be able to just walk out the front gate to hang out in the water.  Takes a lot less work to get cooled down and you don't have to wait for everyone to be packed and ready to play in the water either.  Everything is always just right there whenever anyone wants to play!
I love when Kyle is Off Duty!
On the way down Kasen got car sick. He said poop, but then was crying like he was hurt.  Next thing we know he was saying, "rag" and we looked back to see throw up all over his chest. It was the saddest little thing.
Saturday we packed lunch and rode up the canyon and the boys wore their matching American flag swimming suits! Woo woo!
We need to get Kasen a little tube like this because he LOVED floating in Kennedy's tube!
And wearing these goggles.  On his head, not his eyes!
Sunday we went to Sacrament in Page, AZ then went over to see the dam.  Two days in a row our tour was cancelled though so we never did get the official tour of the dam.
The next morning Kyle got to go fishing and caught himself this giant catfish!
This trip was Tai's first time on a boat.  5 months later than the first time we took Kasen on a boat.
She loves Gatorade, and ice cream and licorice and anything else she can find to chew on!
All Kasen would ask for is licorice too- it's his new favorite thing ever!
And squirting Lyndsey with the sprayer on the front of the boat.
They love nap time on the boat. On Saturday Kasen fell asleep on me holding a squirt gun in one hand and still had the goggles on his head. It made me so happy to see him laying on me right before being the happiest little kid in the world.
Throw in an ice cream cone and you'd have my favorite place, favorite food and favorite people all in one picture.

Monday we played behind the boat.

My first time wake boarding at Lake Powell.  I can get up and that is about it.
Kyle
Kyle hasn't been behind the boat for a few years now.  He is always worried about hurting his ankles while he is on probation at work, but this year he got up on the slalom again!
 Pool noodles for the win!
That night I went to watch some of them paddle board.
And it was totally worth it to watch Kelly fall in on top on Bentley! Haha
 Their twin hats are adorable!
Naps on the boat are the BEST!
We did a little more touring on Tuesday, but Kyle wasn't feeling well. Not long after this nap Kyle was throwing up over the side of the boat so we went home that night.
Kasen got car sick again too.  He asked for his water and I saw the look in his eye! He threw up everywhere.  It's so sad because he doesn't know what to do.  He just sat there with a strawberry half way out of his mouth and we had to tell him to spit everything out of his mouth.

We had fun playing on the water together, but I don't think the Liddiards will ever go back to Lake Powell.  I really wish they could have had a better experience because it is still my favorite vacation spot ever, even if this trip wasn't a huge success overall.

  1. Looks like a fun time, but I have to agree that being able to walk out the door of a houseboat to cool off anytime is the best when at Lake Powell. The slide is an extra bonus as well.
