DIY Cake Smash

It is officially Tai's birthday weekend because she turns One on Sunday!
Tomorrow we are celebrating her first birthday with a Winter Onederland party. I actually did her pictures when she was 11 months old, because I like having them to use for birthday invitations :) So CUTE!

I decided to get super crafty in the DIY department and had lots of fun putting this shoot together for Tai's cake smash!
Too many favorites!
Sunny Days Cakes made the cake for me for $26 (cake isn't my favorite dessert, but this cake was delicious!!) The rest I put together myself.
There are some super cute outfits similar to hers on Etsy, but they are $50 and I don't want to pay that so I just made my own.
The tutu cost me $15.96 to make. I bought 3 spools of tulle and one roll of 7/8" ribbon at Hobby Lobby. Done.
The shirt came in a pack of 5 onesies for $7.92 at Walmart and I just found the "One" image online, printed it onto some transfer paper that I bought 2 years ago, (in a pack of 3 for $7.99) and ironed it on. Done.
So I guess you'll spend about $32 to make it yourself, but then you have 4 extra onesies, 2 extra transfer papers and tons of extra tulle and ribbon to make more tutus with later. Totally worth it!
I also made the photo backdrop stand out of some PVC pipe. Pinterest will tell you that it can be done for only $10, but that is not true. It cost me $37 to make, plus buying fabric for the backdrops.
I used the 3/4" pipe and made my stand 5.5' tall and 4.5' wide.
P.S. the 4-way corner pieces are not sold at any plumbing or hardware stores, they have to be special ordered if you want them.
Also, Home Depot is 100% more kid friendly than Hobby Lobby, meaning your kids will actually fit in their carts!
I don't have tons of props, but this is what I do have, in case anyone out there wants to come schedule a newborn, first birthday or kids indoor session!
