TWO New Cars

At the end of September Kyle found out that he got the detective position he applied for with Riverton. And it was the best schedule ever! Unfortunately, at the end of October Riverton City voted to leave Unified Police. Since Kyle wants to stay with Unified he decided to transfer to Midvale. He'd hoped to work as a Riverton Detective until they officially leave in July, but to make sure he gets to go where he wants he's transferring back to the roads in Midvale THIS WEEK! He'll be working 12-10pm Wednesday-Saturday.
Good news:
He traded in his unmarked car for a BRAND NEW Ford Explorer. The only time he will ever have a brand new car cause we won't ever be buying one for ourselves! We don't believe in that.

Then Friday morning Kyle told me he wanted to go look at a car he found up at Tim Dahle Nissan in Murray, that looked like a really good deal.
He'd been looking at an SUV for us for awhile now. It was the plan to get one right before having baby #3, which we were hoping to be right about now, but that's not happening the way we had planned. We still would like a 4 wheel drive car though and so decided to stick with the rest of the plan anyway. Show some extra faith I guess?
My only requirements for our SUV was to have a 3rd row and be under $20,000.
I keep joking with Kyle cause every time he would tell me about a car he found he would always mention, "And it has a back up camera!" Like I cared about a back up camera.
Apparently Kyle likes to have a back up camera. Haha I don't care. I've never used one before and have never hit anything without one so what's the big deal? Except that I rarely back into the garage like Kyle does.
But not because I can't!

Anyways, It took Kyle a lot of thought and convincing and back and forth to commit to this car.
Which is another super interesting twist about each of us.
Kyle sweats and worries over spending that much money. But anything under $100 he never thinks twice about buying.
I am the complete opposite! I'm trying to save all my money being wasted on the little things so that I have money for these big things! I cannot commit to buying a shirt, a pair of shoes or going out to lunch for the life of me!
It blew his mind that I was totally okay buying a car.
It's because we have been planning on it and thinking about it and he has been looking at them for a long time. Yeah we wanted to wait for our tax return first, but this was a good deal. I felt good about it anyway.
Kyle wanted to go walk around the car one more time.
I said, "Are you wanting me to give you a reason not to buy it?"
He responded, "What's the reason?"
I told him, "I don't have one!"

He wanted to make sure we thought of everything though. Will both SUVs fit in the garage? How much will it raise our insurance? Can we afford it? What if we have to dip into our savings too much? We're going to need to get new tires on it at the end of this year when we just bought all new tires for the Kia last year.
I can't even imagine going to buy a car not even knowing IF I would be approved for it, with plans to buy one anyway.

Want to hear the stupidest thing ever though!
Paying cash for a car will cost you more than financing it. The car dealership wants you to finance it so they get a kick back from the bank. So it ends up costing less to get a loan even though you have to pay interest.
Which is another concerning thing. The last 2 cars we've bought we were told the loan was interest free for the first year. That is why we financed them and paid the loan off at the year mark. When we asked this dealership about doing interest free for 1 year their 2 top finance guys both said that is not a thing. They have never heard of a program like that and said Mountain America (where one of our previous loans was through) for sure doesn't do that. So we've been lied to twice I guess... Awesome.
Anyway, we have to make 6 payments on the loan before we can pay it off, including interest.
So stupid.
Other red flag: Apparently we have 2 mortgages under our name?!  Obviously one of those is not really ours.
So we now have that mess to try and figure out too.

But in the end we left with our new Pathfinder!
It's a 2015 Nissan Pathfinder with only 30,300 miles on it for $16,900!
Dark Blue, tinted with dark fabric seats to hide the little spills my kids will get on it.
Oh and it has a back up camera!
We traded in our Kia Optima for $5,100, which was another good thing because it's about to hit 100,000 miles and trade value goes down a ton once it does.
Kasen was all about climbing up inside during our first walk around and was so excited to be getting a car like Bentley and Kennedy! One PSA though; Don't take your kids with you to buy a car! 4 hours at a car dealership with 2 kids is not what I would call an ideal situation to be in. But we did survive.
We even decided to call him Auzzie, cause he's blue and blue in Portuguese is azul.
And we said goodbye to our "RARE PLUM" Kia.
Apparently that was the official name of the color of our car and we always joked about it. Until someone else on our street had one parked in their driveway and ours wasn't "rare" anymore.
On our way home Kyle said, "We're like a real family now!" Guess we were just missing an SUV.
We talked about all the adventures we had in our Kia of bringing BOTH of our babies home from the hospital in it, but also talked about all the fun family vacations we're going to have in Auzzie!
Can't wait!
And yes, both SUVs fit in the garage! Meant to be!
