The Memorials

It's been too many years since I'd been to Aurora for Memorial Day so this year I took the kids down to spend the day with my parents and my grandparents.

The best part of the day was when Grandma was asking Grandpa if he wanted ice cream with his cake, but he couldn't hear her even after repeating it 4 times. So Kasen walked over to stand right in front of Grandpa and asked him, "DO YOU WANT ICE CREAM WITH YOUR CAKE?!" and then Grandpa heard him! lol
Kasen and Tai got to go on FOUR 4-wheeler rides. Uncle Robbie was so nice to take them and let Grandpa Jeff take them once on his 4-wheeler too. Robbie told me that Kasen seems to have a really fun personality. I agree!

The morning we came home from our camping trip I found out that my Aunt Sandy had passed away after weeks of being in the hospital and on a respirator.

My Aunt Sandy has always been a giver. Whether it was minky blankets, kids Tupperware sets, or googly eyes glasses. The last time I saw my Aunt Sandy she gave Tai a FRIENDS shirt because she knows I love FRIENDS! And it made me think of the episode when Monica insists that she's always the hostess! That was my Aunt Sandy growing up. She was the hostess, party planner and family gatherer. We had Gingerbread house parties, New Years Eve parties, family calendar scrapbooking parties, etc. Thank you for all those times spent together with family! We love and will miss you Sandra Akers.

On Friday we had a private family burial for her at the Ogden Cemetery, near where my Mom's dad and her Grandma Henderson are also buried. Dakota and McKenna had asked me to say the family prayer before closing the casket, which meant so much to me, then today at her Celebration of Life I loved hearing the examples my mom shared of how Aunt Sandy was a protector, a friend, and a giver. We'll all miss her!
