Health Challenge

This year Kyle and I have been working on a health challenge together.  Mostly we've been preparing to run a 10K and trying to eat healthier.
But I have decided that cutting out sugar is the worst idea! I don't ever eat candy or pop, but I sure am missing my warm cookies and ice cream!  I get one free day a week though ;)  Being a mom is much easier when you can binge eat ice cream and cookies.
(Ya know like a good Founders Favorite (sub almonds) or Chocolate Devotion from Cold Stone, a chocolate concrete mixer with cookie dough from Culver's or even just a frosty from Wendy's when I can't afford the good stuff. But then I remember that I can get a whole 1/2 gallon of ice cream for the same price as a cold stone cup and that is so happy! Because sometimes when Private Selection, Red Button or Tillamook is on sale you HAVE to buy 4 to get the sale price ;)
Oh and PS drinking lots more water and eating zero sweets does in no way clear up pregnancy acne.

Anyways... This week I hit my 1/2 way mark to a 10K! I was able to run 3.25 miles in 39 minutes without even stopping!
And beast man Kyle ran 4 miles in 35 minutes.  He's insane!  I'm so proud of how hard he's been working at it since January.  He's already lost over 25 pounds.

My first year in college I remember we had a quote on our bathroom mirror that said, "Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels."  What a stupid quote!
First, because lots of things taste better than being skinny and
Second, the point isn't to be skinny at all!  Health is not about how skinny you are.  Being too skinny is unhealthy even.  I don't care what size pants you wear or how small I might have been in high school.
Health is about being able to do the activities that make you happy and feeling good, not about how great people might say that you look in a bikini.
So find an activity that you like that keeps you active because I have decided that cutting out the sweets and carbs (like pasta, french bread, Pizza Factory bread sticks, Texas Roadhouse scones, Einstein bagels, or Kneaders french toast (that I have still been craving since my birthday) is not worth it!

  1. Amen! I got your pic after you ran 39 minutes straight and it looked like you had just ran 39 minutes straight! I remember when I use to run all those years ago, that the first 3 minutes was the hardest, but once I got my heart rate settled into a steady rhythm it seemed like I was fine for a good thirty minutes. I could never do hills though, and I hated running outside. I did enjoy biking a lot one summer when I had access to a trail by the Jordan Parkway. That might be a fun activity for the family when your kids get older and can go with you.
