Fall Break 2024
We got to go visit Jake and Kristi's family at their new place in Lompoc, California!
We left at 5am on Thursday morning to start our adventure. Kohen got car sick and threw up at about an hour and a half in then freaked out about his legs falling asleep, so we had a rough start, but it got better from there.
Kyle stayed to go deer hunting with Hayden and Grandpa Kelly in the snow, but they didn't get anything this year. Grammy Tammy came with us on our roadtrip again though, but this time it was only 1,642 miles. And we still did it without any screens. Just lots and lots of stickers!
We stopped in Nevada at the Valley of Fire State Park, saw a few desert sheep, had a picnic and went on a short mile hike to the Fire Wave.
On Friday morning we woke up and drove up to Avila and stopped at a pumpkin patch to feed the goats!
The kids also got to do a hay maze and Kasen says California is good at hay mazes.
We also walked down and got to pick some apples that all the kids ate the whole rest of the weekend.

Kolt mostly just chews on the cores after the kids eat all the skin off of them.
Then we headed over to Avila Beach and my kids got to see the ocean for the first time! It was so great! Tai was in sea shell heaven, Kohen played in the waves the entire time and Kolt was loving the sand shovel. Heidi gave me a leash to put on Kolt and it was a lifesaver. He would run towards the water than run away when it reached his feet. He was loving it! As long as it was me holding the leash.
Thanks Jake for taking some pictures of me with Kolt.
I also found this little sand crab! I'd never seen one before so I had to google what it even was.
That night we went back to their house and watched Wild Robot after dinner. It was a cute movie! Then Mom, Jake and I went to sit in the hot tub before we went to bed.
The next morning we woke up and went up to Pismo Beach. We didn't know it, but there was a Clam Festival that day so we got to see a little parade and the kids got to play on some bounce houses for free.
We also got to watch Jake surf!
Pismo was colder than Avila, but that didn't stop Tai and Kohen from running for their lives from the waves! I loved watching them play.
After the beach we went to Inn and Out for lunch. We've done a mini burger tour. Dairy Queen, Carl's Jr. and Inn and Out. I've liked Inn and Out the best. Where Kohen loved this giant pineapple! lol Then we stopped at their pool to finish getting the sand off. It's brilliant.
Kristi let Tai use her watercolors and she was in painting heaven! She painted all sorts of pictures. Later we all played a new game called Exploding Kittens that the kids played the rest of the weekend.
They played Jake's drums and put on glow in the dark tattoos. They had so much fun!
The also tried herbal tea. Kasen and Tai made sure they weren't breaking the Word of Wisdom first though. lol When I was asking if they liked the tea Kohen said, "I like tea! I like all the letters!" Haha
We weren't able to go tour SpaceX because the tours were cancelled for a mission launch that happened Saturday night. So we got to be there to watch the rocket launch like 20 satellites into space! Instead of landing out on a boat in the ocean, this one came back to land where it took off and we got to hear the sonic boom. So cool!
On Sunday morning, Kristi took me and Mom to visit Solvang, a Danish village. It was fun walking around for a little while. Now I'm wishing I wouldn't tried some ebelskivers with ice cream.
Grandma Forsyth sent some crafts for the kids so they got to decorate pumpkins and then Kristi made a yummy Thanksgiving dinner to celebrate Canadian Thanksgiving that was the Monday before.
Monday morning we woke up at 5am again to head back home. This time we made one pit stop to see Seven Magic Mountains. It's an art installation that I thought would have more significance than it did. There is no meaning to it...

15 hours later we were home.
Thank you so much Jake and Kristi for an incredible and unforgettable trip!
And a throwback to 2002 when we went to a Forsyth Family Reunion in California and got to go boogie boarding at Cayucos Beach.
