2024 Highlights

Some Things I Learned during 2024:

1. You do not need to provide a photo ID or proof of residency in order to apply for a credit card, but you DO need both of those things in order to put a fraud alert on your account after someone else opens a credit card in your name... Seems backwards to me.

2. You can read or listen to books for free with Libby!

3. It requires First Presidency approval to fix the mistake of having your daughter recorded as a male on church records.

4. Google maps does not know what exactly a trailhead is and small sagebrush can scratch trucks when passing by it.

5. Do not leave kids bike helmets in the bed of a truck while driving or they will not be there anymore when you arrive at your destination.

6. Drones from Costco still work after being lost in a tree during 2 months of winter storms.

7. Molluscum, also known as water warts are just as impossible to get rid of as regular warts.

8. Phase 1 of braces and an expander for 12 months costs $980 out of pocket.

9. A new toilet in our house costs $250, but a new toilet in our 5th wheel costs $320.

10. It only takes 5 days of summer swimming, without brushing your hair, to develop a genuine dreadlock.

11. Always trim your toe nails before running a race.

12. Chacos are awesome and now I know why all the other Sisters in Brazil had them...

13. Kyle does not know that the red puppet on a kids show is Elmo.

14. Newer vehicles no longer come with CD players. Unfortunately. But they do honk when you fill the tires up with enough air.

15. ALS sucks and there is no cure for it.

16. It costs $485/year for a $500,000 life insurance policy.

17. Kohen is allergic to trees, weeds, cats, dogs, and horses, but not grass.

18. I am convinced that it is impossible to open a Razor scooter on the first try. And no child on YouTube has a clue how to make a helpful video about how to actually do it.

19. It takes about 6 hours to wash and then individually separate and dry a gallon size bag of pine needles.

20. What a Pacific Mole Crab looks like and what a sonic boom sounds like.

21. If you ask for 2 books of stamps at Costco, then give you 200 stamps. Not 40. TWO HUNDRED stamps.

22. If you accidentally click the bid button on Ebay you can't undo it. Especially if you win the auction.

23. How to make and frost a cake with Buttercream frosting.

24. If smashed enough, a Walmart piñata will fit in my mailbox and candy necklaces are not an ideal candy to stuff a piñata with.

25. Buying things for someone does not make up for time not spent with them.

My Top9 of 2024

2024 Family Highlights

KYLE started a new job with the Salt Lake County Sheriff's investigations unit. He loves fishing and playing basketball whenever he can.

AMBER still enjoys her small photography business, going to book club and putting more miles on the car than Kyles likes. She read 60 books this year (only 6 were audio books).

KASEN loves being involved with everything at school. He's joined LEGO League, Running Club and will be in the school's Lion King Jr. production in March. He got braces this year, wrote a book, which he sold 10 copies of, started piano lessons and is learning Portuguese on Duolingo!

TAI loves art. She entered the Reflections art contest, where she won the Award of Excellence and is moving on to the next level of the competition. She also liked playing soccer, starting piano lessons and trying a gymnastics class this year. She also got her ears pierced and chose to be baptized.

KOHEN is finally having his turn to try all the things he's been waiting to do. He played T-ball, did swimming lessons, excitedly started Preschool, learned to ride his 2 wheel bike, and rocked his first primary program. He has more energy than he knows what to do with!

KOLT learned how to walk earlier this year and is now going to nursery, making it much easier for Kyle and Amber to teach Kasen's primary class. He climbs everything, hits his head everywhere and only wants Mom.

We went on 6 camping trips, visited 5 states, 4 countries and Kasen and I ran 3 races. 2024 was also when we started the Friday Family movie night tradition. I usually pick favorite family movies from the 90s that my kids always end up liking more than they thought they would!

As for magic number 9: I went on 9 hikes, 9 temple dates and 9 movie theater dates too!

We traded in our Nissan, upgraded our Cougar to a 5th wheel and I actually worked on my pushups this year! I got to the point where I could do 3 sets to reach 60 pushups! I started in January able to do 6. So I read over 50 books and did over 50 pushups and it feels amazing! Pages, Pushups and Prayers. Those were my goals. For the most part it's been a pretty great year.

Cheers to 2024 and a Happy New Year!
