Jacksonville, FL

Kyle had a week long homicide training in Jacksonville, FL last week so since he had a car and a room already, I flew down half way through the week to hang out with him for a few days!
Right before I left there was a series of unfortunate events, including getting a gnarly cough, starting my period hours before my flight, Kolt throwing up and our garage door breaking! Yay!
I got there Wednesday night and Kyle took me to a yummy Caribbean restaurant, Bahama Breeze.
Tacos again for lunch the next day at Talkin Tacos- also delicious! We didn't ever go eat anywhere that we have here at home. #travelingrules
Thursday and Friday while Kyle was at training I spent the day reading and relaxing outside by the pool. I got to finish 2 books while I was there. It was so nice. I didn't sunburn like I do in Utah either.
Then Thursday night we drove over to Jacksonville beach and put our feet in the water and found a few sea shells for the kids. Loved how much warmer the water is than California!
But it's so hot and humid that my camera lens kept fogging. Makes it hard to take pictures.
And every time Kyle got out of the car, "It's still so hot! And it's not even any cooler in the shade either!"
For dinner we found a sushi place called Wild Ginger that was so good! Even though Kyle said the complimentary soup looked like it was for washing your feet in. So I ate his!

Friday there was a massive rainstorm. The thunder was SO loud! But I convinced Kyle to drive us down to walk around St. Augustine and luckily the rain stopped. It's like a little pirate town. We walked down St. George street and walked all around the Castillo de San Marcos. We stopped to get ice cream and it was the funniest part of the trip!
As soon as we walked outside it was instantly melting. We could not lick it fast enough.
Then the wind would blow and it was getting all over Kyle's shirt and pouring down his hands.
"How do they eat ice cream here?! It is evaporating!"
"I feel like I'm 6 years old!"
"Florida sucks!"
Haha
The rest of the time there was walking around to find somewhere to wash his hands, even though I told him to just use the fountain at the park. We finally found a hose by the dock though!
I love how you can see sea shells in all the cement.
We did not pay to go in the pirate museum but we saw a pirate ship.
And bought the kids some salt water taffy from one of the stores.
That night, on the way back to the hotel we ate dinner at Cheddars. Kyle was a fan.
He was not sleeping well that night though. 3 times he jumped out of bed to leave and one of the times he had the door open and I was begging him to wake up and come back to bed. "No, this is your room! I am going to my room!" So glad I didn't have to chase him out in his underwear. lol
Saturday morning we got up and checked out, then drove up to Georgia! It was about the same distance away as when we drove down to St. Augustine the day before.
But first I cashed in the $5 Kyle won from buying lottery scratchers!
We ended up visiting St. Marys and just walked around. We found an oceanside park where we could sit on a big swing and watch people fishing out on the piers.
While we slowly melted.
We didn't see any manatees, but I think these furry trees are so cool looking. And they were everywhere!
Then we had lunch across the street at Captain Seagle's. I was hoping Kyle would get to try eating alligator while we were there, but nowhere we went was ever serving it. Guess it's not so popular!
We headed back to Florida and stopped at Fernandina Beach. I put my feet in the water one last time. We tried to go see Amelia Island Lighthouse, but it was closed and had construction curtains and scaffolding hanging all around it. Bummer! I don't think I've ever been to a lighthouse.
We stopped for ice cream again, this time at DeNucci's and it was a much better and cleaner experience!
How cute right?!
We also stopped to walk around Florida Citrus Center, because it had like 17 billboards. But it was just a gas station. With a baby alligator to look at!
Kyle got to see one in the wild and we each saw turtles while we were there and surprisingly lots of little bunnies.
Luckily we got the the airport early enough that when we got the notification that our flight was delayed 9 hours, we went to the desk in time to make it on a flight to Charlotte, NC an hour earlier instead.
At Charlotte there was another delay though because of a hydraulic leak. We finally made it back home though at 2am! Just in time to celebrate Father's Day.
Thanks for a fun trip Kyle! Sorry I was coughing the whole time.

While we were gone the kids got to stay a few nights at Kyley's house and had a blast playing in the water and having a dance party!
She told us that Kohen told everyone he wants to marry Collins and kept telling Kyley that she is "on thin ice!" Haha
Grammy also came to stay one night with them and they got to go to a splash pad again!
Thank you so much!
