Our last camping trip of the year we went to Strawberry Reservoir for General Conference weekend! Luckily Kyley and Jordan have a satellite so we could watch all of it in their trailer with them.
And in between sessions we flew kites with the kids.
Kasen had his kite string all the way out and then it got away from him and caught in a tree across the road. Kyley and I made a great team getting it back down though! She pulled the string and I was able to jump high enough to grab the kite tails.
We had a good talk about how the kite string is like the commandments. Some people think they are restricting, but really when we hold onto them then we have the most freedom to fly high! With nothing to hold onto, kites fall.
I am so grateful I have a Savior that knows just what I need to have the freedom to fly and that we can choose to bind ourselves to Him.
Kyley let the kids paint with colored glue and Kohen was so happy when Kennedy drew a shark for him.
Kyle even got to go fishing with Kyley one morning. A very cold morning!
And I loved watching General Conference. I always feel so uplifted, inspired and motivated after conference weekend.
I didn't really have a question I was looking for answers for, but I liked a couple of the questions that were asked of me.
“What if the day of His coming were tomorrow? If we knew that we would meet the Lord tomorrow—through our premature death or through His unexpected coming—what would we do today?” -Sister Wright
Look ahead and evaluate “where this will lead?” -Godoy
“The covenant path is all about our relationship with God. He wants to help us become. Why should I walk a covenant path? It depends on what degree of relationship you want to experience with Jesus Christ. This is why I wear the holy garment as a constant reminder. Because I want to live in committed covenant relationship with Him." -Emily Belle Freeman
There was also a strong theme of agency. It is an essential blessing we have been given.
God's plan "is a plan that completely honors your agency." -Oaks
"Heavenly Father's plan is a perfect plan! It allows each of us to choose how we will live here on earth and where we will live forever. Avoid anything that robs you of your agency. Think Celestial!" -President Nelson
-We want to see Jesus for who He is and to feel His love. This should be the reason for most of what we do in the Church.- Prophets invite us to seek His face. I take this as a reminder that we worship our Father, not a formula, and that we’re not finished until we see Jesus as the face of our Father’s love and follow Him, not just His rules. -Daines
“My dear brothers and sisters, how we treat each other really matters!
I pray that, like Him, we may love others because that is the right thing to do, not because they are doing the right thing or fitting the “right” mold." -Giraud-Carrier
I love religion because it is here that I have opportunities to surround myself with good people, helping me find opportunities to do good things and helping to bring me closer to Christ. It helps me to better love God and love others, to see the good and feel light.
Maybe none of it is true at all, but then again, what if it is? I know that the ways I have been blessed are real.
So I choose to believe.
